Matt McIntosh (born January 13, 1971 in southwestern Connecticut) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose musical background begins in the mid-late 1980s American hardcore punk movement, having been involved with several bands, most notably Hatebreed, The Eventide, and Deathkiller.
McIntosh has more recently realized a relative level of acclaim as a solo artist, having released his home recordings for free as The Basement Demos in November 2007, which, through blogger activity and podcasting helped the release garner upwards of 25,000 downloads in its initial year, exclusively through web based music community Last.fm. Its eight self-produced tracks fuse elements of rock, post-punk, electronic and folk. The artist's lyrics have been noted at times as baring socially conscious themes as well as references to his native New England.
After a number of studio related gaffes, McIntosh announced plans to release his second solo effort, Between the Highway and the Ocean, over the course of several months starting in summer, 2010. The tracks will be available digitally, free of charge. Though it is not mandatory to obtain the files, the artist asks that a donation of any amount be made to one of several charities listed on his Facebook and MySpace pages.
